The Lyme Artisans Guild is a collective of fine craftspersons with its roots in an artisan guild that was part of Old Lyme, Connecticut's history.
Inspired by the community of painters that were congregating around Florence Griswold's Old Lyme home, in the early 1930s a group of artisans founded the Old Lyme Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. Members of the guild had studios in what was known as Peck Tavern, located at 1 Sill Lane. The seventeenth-century building was used as both studio and display space for the artisans’ hand-crafted furniture, ceramics, ironwork, weavings, metal ware, paintings and other decorative objects. The objective of the guild was to make people living in the region aware that quality hand-crafted items made by professional artisans were readily available locally; people did need not search far afield for beautiful items for their homes. |
